Hilarious ‘Don’t Give Up on Vista’ Web Ad from Apple

OK, I’m a PC guy, but I absolutely LOVE the Mac ads staring Justin Long and John Hodgman.  The latest Ad is a hilarious spoof on the less-than-spectacular success of Windows Vista (BTW, before you ask, I strongly recommend waiting before you upgrade to Vista… seems they are really having some trouble getting the bugs ironed out of this one.  Stick with Windows XP)

Pictures : Boathouse Work Day

Our semi-annual work day at the Boathouse (Bachelors Barge Club) was this past weekend. We had a terrific turn-out of very hard-working folks ! Just to document things, I took a few pictures :

Now, I know, it certainly does look like Bob is standing around and doing nothing but eating donuts… But rest assured, I can personally attest to the fact that Bob cleaned up the entire up-river yard… and from what I hear, found some pretty interesting items !! (seriously, why is there a condom in the upriver yard ?)

At any rate, I’m speaking for Henry here when I say a big thanks to all who showed up, and looking forward to an even bigger crowd for the Spring Work Party !

Video : Braxton Regatta

I raced in the Braxton Regatta last weekend. What an absolutely fantastic day !! We’ve been practicing for the last 8 weeks in the quad (Steph, Trish, Mike, and myself), and we did absolutely great !! OK, we didn’t win, but we only lost by…. well, I’m not going to ruin the surprise, you have to watch the video yourself !

Theatre Review : Peter Pan

We (Hi Meg !) saw the show opener for Peter Pan at the Walnut on Wed night.   Like I said, I  had never actually seen Peter Pan before… the  story was great !   I really liked it (Yeah, I guess most of you probably know the Peter Pan story, huh ?).   The first word that comes to mind after seeing the play is “Disney-esqe”.   Somehow, the folks at the Walnut  made it feel like I was watching a Disney Movie… but live !   The humor was great :  Captain Hook and the sliding board…   hilarious !   And they did an amazing job of making Peter Pan fly !   They even threw in a little surprise at the end, during curtain call.  You’ll have a great time…  It’s a great production for the Christmas Season, and I’m guessing it’s going to be popular, so if you want to go, buy your tickets soon !

I think my favorite actor in this production was Paul Schoeffler as Captain Hook.  His comedic timing was just great.   Kind of makes sense, I suppose, since Paul played Captain Hook when Peter Pan opened on Broadway back in 1991.

Next Up : Peter Pan

We’re headed out to see “Peter Pan” at the Walnut on Wed night.  This is Opening Night for the show, so hopefully there will be some sort of swanky event afterwards !    Honestly, I’m pretty excited.   Somehow, I’m navigated through 35 years of my life without ever having seen Peter Pan, so I have no idea what the story is about !  Apparently, they’ll being flinging actors around through the air on little wires… I love it !

Racing in the Braxton Regatta

I’m racing in the Braxton Regatta tomorrow (Sunday).   Yup, you guessed it… it’s crazy cold to be rowing on the river right now, but no worries, we’re racing in a quad, so it’s not so bad (at least if we flip, I’ll have someone to hang out with !)

Steph, Mike, Trish and I have been training during the fall season, and we’re pretty exited about tomorrow !  It’s a fairly short race (1000 meters).   The start is at St. Joe’s boathouse (mid-river), and the finish is at the grand-stands.  Our time should hopefully be well under 4 minutes.

Kelly Drive will be closed, but if you want to drive down and watch the race, Click Here for a Parking Pass.

We are in Event #67, the Mixed Master Quad race, which starts at 1:34pm.  We are registered under the name of Stephanie Muth.

Review : Empty Plate in the Cafe du Grand Boeuf

I saw “Empty Plate in the Cafe du Grand Boeuf” last night at the Arden.

A comedy ?  It’s a comedy ?  I had NO idea !!  Honestly, I didn’t read up on this play at all before I went, but it was quite a treat !  It’s a quick 90-minute play with no intermission, which really meshes well with style of the show.  It’s all about a really rich American Dude who has his own reastaurent open 24 hours per day, just for himself.  The staff stays there all the time, just in case he comes in.

The plot centers around his interaction with his long-time staff.  For the most part, the play is really quick, enjoyable, and very light on it’s feet.  I particuarly enjoyed Ian Merrill Peakes’ performance as Claude, the manager of the restaurant !  So far, I’ve seen Ian in ”A Prayer for Owen Meany”, “Enchanted April”, and now this.  Can’t really place my finger on why I dig his stuff so much, but get some tickets and go check it out for yourself.

And this final note : I learned some great triva from the play.  Ever heard the expression “Soup to Nuts” meaning everything from beginning to end ?  Well, I never understood that the expression comes from dining, referring to a meal that starts with soup, and ends with a dessert of nuts.  Check it out entry at Wikipedia

Your Very Own Plane

Picture a small sail-plane, where your feet stick out the bottom. Now run towards the edge of a cliff, and jump off !! It’s like the Wright Brothers on steroids.

Here’s the link to the video.

NOTE: If you’re at work, turn down the volume before clicking Play (there’s alot of wind noise in the video)
